So as you all know, not only do I have a love of crochet, but I love many other forms of art as well. Any way I can get creative and express myself is music to my ears. But you might be surprised about some of the mediums I use to get creative. I mean....there's yarn, there's paint, there's film and then there's....Minecraft?! Yep! Recently my mom got a stamp set that basically could depict a picnic scene. It had hamburgers, it had ketchup and mustard, it had grass, and little ants! I thought this was so adorable that I was inspired to build a scene of my own. At first it started with just the picnic table and food. A plate of hot dogs, salad and chips, hot dog buns and of course ketchup and mustard. But then I thought....this scene needs a grill! I even made sure it had that charcoal and fire burning underneath. You can't have under cooked hot dogs!! I then proceeded to add in the groundwork, i.e. the dirt, grass and some rocks and clover. Then of course I decided to go overboard and build a giant tree. xD But what is a picnic without some shade and greenery? I'm not entirely sure the total time it took me to do this, but I will say that I placed each and every item one at a time by hand. It was basically like building a virtual sculpture with building blocks. I am still adding things to the scene whenever any new ideas strike me. But this is a perfect example of how art is art. You can take anything and make it beautiful and amazing! If you want to see what originally inspired me you can go here to my mom's blog. She creates some fantastically cute and adorable things! You can find her here: Though another reason I take my Minecraft building so seriously is not simply because I find it very enjoyable but because I am now a part of a Minecraft build team! I really admire all the people I work with and they are an extremely talented bunch of people. It is amazing to be able to work together with those that share the same love of creation. You can find their webpage here: And you should also check out their Youtube channel here: Even if you are not a Minecrafter I still encourage you to check them out. I believe it is more than just a game, but an opportunity to get together with friends and let our imagination's soar! Not only do we have the ability to create other worlds with immersive story lines, but some of us create some absolutely amazing architecture. No kidding!

Once again, I am whittling away at the long list of Ravelry patterns I have queued to do. Starting with the smaller easier ones! This time I've finished an Instagram phone case. I like the idea of Instagram but I don't have one of those fancy phones that allows you to have a bunch of apps. And I like it that way! Anyways, this pattern was super easy! I had to modify it a little bit to fit my own model of phone. Sounds hard but it isn't. You just have to have your phone handy for measuring and the pattern instructs you on how to improvise. This is a really cute and useful pattern to do because it makes your phone look snazzy and protects it at the same time. I actually dropped mine wearing this case and the yarn softened the fall! You can find the pattern here: Also, if you'd like to join Ravelry (and I highly recommend that you do!) to create your own pattern queue you can do so here: Happy Crocheting!
If you are a crocheter or a knitter then you've most likely heard of Ravelry. If you haven't and you do crochet or knit (or even if you don't) you should totally check this site out. It's the most awesome community for yarnaholics. So it should come as no surprise that I've accumulated around 180 patterns that I want to try from Ravelry. This is probably not unusual, but as my friend pointed out it would take me half a year to complete all the things on my list if I was to do one each day. Which is pretty impossible. And since I don't want to take 5 years to get to everything on the list I decided to get in gear. The first thing I went for was this lovely little construction cone! Perfect for when I want to mark a work in progress zone. Which is, believe it or not, most often my computer. I also thought it would be pretty funny to leave these things in the middle of the sidewalk and see how people react to them. That might just be my first yarnbomb project for the summer. Heh heh. Anyways, if you'd like to make one of these for yourself you can find the pattern here: You can also check out Ravelry here:
One of my resolutions for this year is to blog more often. I get so into projects and so far into my own world that I forget to share. that comes with being an only child. It also means I have a lot of artistic interests that pretty much take up the house. On Sundays, my mom and I work in our art journals. Whatever comes to mind (or doesn't come to mind) is what we work on. To exercise our creative muscles! I usually have a vague idea in mind, but today I was completely stumped. Until I looked out the window... Snowed in! I hate driving in the snow and luckily I didn't have to be anywhere. But it sparked an idea. When I work in my journal I get to use all my mom's fun stamps and tools. It's kind of like having a special one day privilege. xD I'm not that much into stamps, but they can be super helpful when you need a particular shape or idea. The markers are my favorite. When I think of snow, I don't think about playing in it. I think about staying inside and drinking hot tea and reveling in it's beauty while staying warm and cozy! Anyway, since we have a limited range of colors with the stamp pads, I use the markers instead to get the colors I need. This is a really good tactic to use especially if you don't want to use the entire stamp, only a little part of it. I wanted the picture to have a "looking out of a window" sort of feel. I was going to draw the window, but thought this wood pattern gave a snug cabin atmosphere. But then I forgot that I wanted to add tea cups to the window ledge. Oops! But I figured it out. For the other page of this picture I focused on the snow. I had a little bit of blue that bled through from something on the other side and it was the perfect background. I then added the words "Snow Day" using individual letters. Then added more snowflakes. Every snowflake or snow stamp we have went into it! But the pages still felt too separate. So I added in a little light wood finish to tie everything in. Not bad for coming up with it on the spot! If you would like to know more about the stamps, markers, and tools I used please visit my mom's blog. You can find her here: http://sylviamoon.weebly.com/
Once again it's been a crazy few weeks! No sooner had I gotten my studio operational then I had decided to throw myself head first into a really involved art project. And a few special crochet projects as well. But more on that later. Apart from being a crocheter I am also a multi-media artist. So if you interested in seeing how I work you should definitely check out what I've been doing on here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q8mqOOXyz8 Anyways...about a week ago my mom mentioned that she had a yarn coupon for Michaels. Dangerous thing to say to a yarnaholic such as myself! So off I went to find me some yarn to pet, I mean work with. Because, you know, you can never have too much yarn. So I ended up buying something I usually wouldn't have thought to work with. I had no idea that Isaac Mizrahi did yarn. But there it was, featured on an end cap in the store. I was drawn in by the beautiful and shiny colors. Obviously! But upon picking it up, realized it was extremely soft as well. So of course I took it home with me. xD Even with the coupon this yarn can get a bit pricey, (especially for large projects) so I only got 3 skeins. And since it is a super bulky yarn there wasn't really much yardage to be had either. But who cares. It was pretty. The great thing about bulky yarn though, is that you can make a small project with it very quickly. I was able to create this fun ensemble in only a few days. So yeah, I would recommend this yarn to anyone. If you're a beginner crocheter this would be some very nice yarn to use because it is super easy to work with. Especially if you're using a super large hook. I used a size K and that worked well for me.
