As some of you may know, Twinkie Chan is my crochet idol. I would not have started doing this if not for her book. Well, I wanted to give back so I decided to do something for her charity. So not only am I helping her, I am helping others. Two birds with one stone! Plus, this was extremely fun. If you want to know more, or crochet and would like to help her out as well please visit her charity site here: www.tissueboxbakery.com. She even has some patterns for you! But the short version is that you create a little tissue box cover in the shape of a bakery item and mail it to her. She sells it and the proceeds go to charity. Here is what I decided to do with mine: I wanted white frosting so that is what I started with. You first have to do the covering for the top of the box. Then you continue with the frosting down the side. Kind of backwards from a real cake if you think about it. For my cake I wanted chocolate. I then added some red filler. These are the rows of pipe frosting. Aren't they cute? They're pretty simple to do, but kind of odd. Then came the really tricky part. I had to pin the frosting and cake together around the tissue box to make sure I got it right. I then had to whip stitch it together around the box. Not my strong point! Once the frosting and cake were joined, I pinned the piping along the edges and had to whip stitch that on too. For the finishing touch I added some red sprinkles and pulled the tissue through for the whipped cream! Mmmmm, yummy!
I'm not sure if I should go for a chocolate peppermint cake, or a chocolate strawberry cake though.

The craft show went pretty well. We got to meet a few celebrities. Mom and I put on a wonderful display. And a red solo cup had a baby cup!
This is a little last minute but on Saturday my mom will be at a craft show in Kirkland. She makes greeting cards and gift wrap. You can visit her site here: Sylvia Moon
I will also be there with her and anything currently available in my store can be bought from me at the fair without having to pay shipping. If any of you are interested it will be held at 1269 Quarry Road Kirkland, IL from 9am-3pm. There will also be a number of other vendors as well. The craft show is part of the Christmas in Kirkland event so there will be plenty going on to get into the holiday spirit! Whenever I crochet I always hope I will be able to go from point A to point B with no problems. But just like anything else that almost never happens!
Sometimes the yarn gets all tangled. Which can then feel like some sort of line puzzle trying to find which strand is causing the gigantic knot in the middle of the yarn ball. Other times I realize I've been zoning out and missed something or have added more than I should have. Or for whatever reason the piece just doesn't look. . . right. So I will have to "frog" my work and start over. Sometimes several times. Now if you don't crochet, or maybe even if you do, you may wonder what on earth does a frog have to do with crocheting?! But it is a slang term that is actually kind of funny. When you mess up in crochet you can literally pull or rip the thread you are working on out of the item you were making. You "rip it, rip it, rip it". Sound familiar? I'm not really sure who started the term but they must have had a sense of humor in the face of adversity! I am not a winter person! The only thing I really like about it is that it gives me an excuse to wear all my crocheted things as well as all my sweat gear. Sometimes all of it at once. I also love to wrap myself up in blankets. So as you can see I am in full cocoon mode! I think I must have been a bear in a former life. Eating and hibernating sound really good right now. Fortunately crocheting is the best kind of activity for this weather. Now if only I could keep the couch from eating all of my tools!
