Finally! All the furniture has been either moved in or out of my house and now starts the real challenge (as if that first part wasn't hard enough!). Now I've got to design my studio! I had some ideas in mind, but the workable space in your head almost always differs from the actual workable space in reality. Nevertheless, I didn't misjudge that by a lot. I've already gotten started.... And as you can see I'm far from finished! What you can't see is all the clutter and shelves lying about that I need to sort through. But there is definitely a lot of floor space which I like. And the bed on the floor is LOVELY!
There isn't much to see at the moment, but when I want something done I work fast! So more updates soon! And don't forget that a proper studio will soon mean lots of cool projects, paintings and crochet! ;)

Phew it's been hectic around here! I cannot wait until the furniture ballet that is happening in my apartment right now is over. Then I can get started on the REAL fun stuff! Like my studio! But, more on that later. Anyways, maybe about a week ago my mom suggested we have a creative day. She wanted to do art journals and while I love some of the things people do it's not really my thing. For me it's out of sight, out of mind! I'm more of a painting person. Luckily I had a little canvas I could work with. So after gathering our supplies we got right to it! To start I browsed one of my Pinterest boards for some inspiration and found a quote that I liked which gave me an idea of what I wanted to do. For some reason this prompted me to want a nice light pink color for my background. I guess my mom was a bit in tune with me because she did too! Here she is! Deep in concentration. ;) I'm not sure what sort of techniques she used (if you are curious you can visit her blog here: www.sylviamoon.weebly.com) but the quote is one of my favorites. So very true! While she moved right along, I took some of her dauber things and added some blurred circle shapes to my background. My idea was to give it an out of focus look. After that I spattered it with watery orange paint to add to the party look. I certainly LOOK like I want to party! I think I was just having fun. I then took some gesso and made a ball shape. And when that was dry, used this shiny silver stamp pad and a hexagonal stencil to create mirrors on the ball. Can you guess what it is yet? If you are wondering about all the supplies I used, I confess I don't know much about them as I stole...I mean borrowed them from my mom's stamping supplies. All I know is that the daubers and inks are from Stampin' Up and the hexagonal stencil was one of Tim Holtz's. The paint of course is my own and is simply of the acrylic variety. Meanwhile, mom had added a really nice calligraphy stamp to her edges and secured the quote to the page. She was going to add a little bottle cut out but then changed her mind and decided she wanted to use this chocolate strawberry stamp instead. You can see it to the left of her art journal page, just waiting to be used! See! You can see the cute little strawberries here! She stamped them, colored them, cut them out, and then basically shellacked it to the page. She added a lot of glitter in the white areas too but it's kind of hard to see here because the gloss is still drying. I decided I wanted to get in on the glitter and glossy shellacking and added a mixture of it in between all my hexagons. That was a picnic. And for some reason it didn't really end up all that shiny. I then started outlining the ball and some of the mirrors. Creating an art journal page is apparently much faster than painting. Because while mom had finished ages ago I still had to wait for all the stuff on my painting to dry. While waiting I cut out a bunch of letters from a magazine. Then I modge-podged (it was actually my own concoction of glue and water) them onto the canvas. Here is the semi-finished product! Ta-da! I say semi-finished because as I was looking at it, something seemed to be missing... I wanted more shiny!! Mom suggested I use rhinestones. At first I thought that wouldn't really go with the cut out magazine effect. But then I realized it would really make the disco ball POP! Plus, rhinestones are definitely shiny! So after a trip to the craft store my creative project was finally finished!! So....this took me about a week to do when it was only supposed to be for a day. Haha! Oops. But it was a nice needed exercise. Sometimes when I want to create something I get stubborn and want to have a very clear idea in mind first. Which can be really hard because it can actually stop the creative flow. And then I end up not doing anything! So it is important to sometimes just grab a vague idea and run with it. Just let your instincts guide you. You may not always like what turns out and sometimes you will! But you will always be surprised. =)
