I woke up feeling very down today. We all have those moments. Where you think to yourself: "Why am I doing what I am doing?" and "Am I making a difference?"
To cheer me up my mom took me out for lunch and while we were there I saw this guy come in wearing a Pikachu hat. I thought it was cute and it made me smile. But more than that it was a reminder about why I AM doing what I am doing. I wanted to crochet as a career not just because I wanted to be doing something that was of interest to me and to make money doing it. I have a mission. I want to make people smile. It sounds really simple but it isn't. With everything that is going on right now everyone feels pretty grumpy, isolated, and not at all in a caring mood. Because we are ALL struggling. So I wanted to bring color back to our everyday lives. I wanted to share something soft and warm so that when you are feeling down it's like having a portable blankie. But most of all, I wanted cuteness to make people smile. Even for a second. Because you never know how just a little simple thing that you are wearing or just something tiny that you did affects others in positive ways. Because this guy decided to wear this hat, walk into Subway for 2 minutes, and then leave.... He brightened my whole day. So I just want to remind you all to have courage. Something you do may just have helped someone else even if you weren't trying to and were just being yourself. And for those of you who have no idea what Pikachu is, just imagine a tall, thin guy with long brown hair walking around with this on his head:

The open house was a success! Thanks to all my wonderful supporters I've gotten the jumpstart and confidence I needed. You guys are the best! I'm excited to fill all these orders! Next week starts my mission of figuring out shipping details and then I can finally open my online store. I've also already got some pattern ideas in the making so you'll start to see original items coming directly from my brain to yarn format. Now I'm back to work. As always, stay tuned!
This weekend I will be having a open house to sell my crochet. Since it is in my home it was by invitation only. But whatever I don't sell will be put up here on my site. So stay tuned! The next few days will be hectic but I'm excited. Here is a sneek peak at what my crochet table will look like: The proceeds from all these items will give me a jump start on funds for creating my own patterns and style. So coming up in my blog I'll be posting this creative process. I also hope to have some yarn bombing adventures soon as well.
So I had some fun colored yarn that I decided to play with. This orange, brown and beige yarn initially reminded me of fall, but the more I look at it the more it makes me think of a vanilla sundae with chocolate and caramel. When I made this cowl I was thinking of sherbet. The orange and raspberry flavors to be precise. It's deliciously colorful and kind of nostalgic. Also, here is a fun little fact: the mannequin head I used in these pictures was actually made by me in my ceramics class in high school. I put a purple wig on it and there you go!
Funny thing about this head is that I always thought it looked a bit like Dennis Rodman, though when I made it that was not my intention! So I needed a break from the baby stuff, so I went back to making the hand warmers. I'm always cold, and when I wear my stuff I never have that problem. You'd think I would have discovered this earlier! Anyway, here is a view of what the arm, er hand warmer looks like from the top and the side. Here they are not on my hands. The stitch used for this was called the cross stitch. It looks more like a bunch of triangles to me but the wording is appropriate for the method though. I had a bit of yarn left over. Not enough to really do anything so I made some wrist warmers or sweat guards or whatever you'd like to call them. These were not from a pattern. I did them all by myself. Haha! And here is just what the pair looks like together.
