I have started the process of making arm warmers. It is a bit of a different experience for me because it requires the use of a finer yarn. Up until now I've only worked with worsted weight and bulky yarns. The pattern called for a super fine yarn. Just slightly thicker than something you would use to create lace. When you use yarn with a larger weight, the stitches are definitely much easier to see! Anyway, here is what it looks like so far: The picture in the top left is what they should eventually look like. I'll have finished pictures soon!

The other day I was working on a project while enjoying the comfort of my couch. I had set it down for a second to flip through my pattern book and when I picked it up again I realized my hook had taken a dive into the couch. I was reminded of something I saw online previously which I didn't quite get. Now I do! Luckily I was able to find the hook but this makes me think of all the things that just vanish. Like socks. Or a square that was part of an afghan I had been making. Several months after I had completed the afghan (substituting another color to replace the square I lost) my mom found the square in her room. There was absolutely no reason for it to be there. Perhaps the sock monster got bored? My Stitch Nichers recently taught me how to knit. It is similar to crochet and yet....not.
This is an art that will definitely be taking years for me to get the hang of. But I've got plenty of great teachers available! When I started crochet it felt natural to me. My grandmother had tried to teach me when I was young and while it was fun it didn't seem to take. I can't say what exactly has gotten me "hooked" on it in later years. I know many people who are both knitters and crocheters and it is fascinating to ask them which they find easier. Usually whatever they started with seems to be what they are most at ease with. Though I've had one original knitter say that crocheting is definitely easier! But I also know a knitter that just can't get into crocheting because it feels too different to her. It makes me wonder though. If I had started knitting first, would crochet seem more complicated? |
