Holy crap it's been nearly a year since I posted. Well...I'm still alive! Yay! In all seriousness though I've been battling a lot of things which makes for not a lot of creativity and fun times. Actually it makes for NO creativity and fun times. It happens and I'm not going to get into it. In other news I finally finished a painting idea I've had for probably about a year. Currently I work in retail and when you're surrounded by that much unnecessary garbage every day you start thinking about it. At least I do. Things such as where the hell do people put all these collectibles, how many sunglasses do you really need, how long has this stuff been sitting here and omfg I never want to see another fidget spinner in my life!!!! I started to imagine our planet collapsing under all this garbage filling up every nook and cranny until finally it started leaking into outer space to form a ring of junk around the Earth much like Saturn's rings. Combined with a strange obsession I have with tiny things and the thought of "what if I glued a bunch of miniature things onto a canvas" popped into my head and viola. Junk in Orbit was born. Other than the miniature stuff I used acrylic paint and fabric paint. The fabric paint having the amazing effect of glowing in the dark. I couldn't get it on picture as it just wouldn't show up but it is pretty spiffy.

Hey all! It's Spring already!! Time can sure get away from you if you aren't paying attention. I've been hard at work catching up with all the videos I had made last year and didn't finish editing. If you follow my Youtube channel you'll no doubt have already noticed the sudden influx of videos. My anxiety is slowing getting better which is fortunate since Sylvia seems to be determined to make more day trips this year whether I'm ready or not! Anyways, I've been getting my geek on it seems. If you ever played Super Mario Bros then this is for you! As I was doing this I remembered how much I really enjoy painting. So I will definitely be trying to do more of that. I often feel like I have a lot of ideas and not a lot of time or energy to do them. But at least I've always got something I can be doing. I'm never bored that's for sure!
Recently I've been watching a lot of artists paint on Youtube and it inspired me to start again. Not to mention I haven't done anything in my art journal for about a year, a project I insisted my mom and my friend participate in with me. Whoops. So after my mom showed an interest in picking it back up again I decided that I'd my own take on a picture I had seen. I also decided to challenge myself not to erase anything. It started out with a very rudimentary and sloppy sketch with a very light colored watercolor pencil. I then outlined the sketch a bit more boldly the way that I wanted it and filled it in with various shades of purple (my favorite color) and black. I was feeling a sort of Beetlejuice vibe. The next step was to take water to the layer of colored pencils that I had put down. They are called watercolor pencils for a reason. I find this method of water color to be a bit more controlled. You can see how vibrant the colors get once the water has hit them. After the color had dried I wanted to go back in and give it a sharper edge. So I took a black ball point pen and started outlining and adding definition with some cross hatching. Once finished with my character sketch however, I was at a loss for a background. For some reason I thought of writing in a journal entry or something. I had read a quote recently that seemed to fit so I lightly wrote it over and over in the background then used some rubbing alcohol to blur the ink as well as add more light water color. Here is the final result! If you like this image and would like it on a phone cover, mug or journal you can visit my RedBubble page here: Stay tuned for more!!
Not much happening on the crochet front as of now I'm sorry to say. Though I have finished the cat hats, the weather has not been too cooperative as far as photos and filming. Let's hope for some warm weather soon! Speaking of which, I've had spring on the brain and when I think of spring I sometimes think of clover. Which then got me thinking of St. Patrick''s day and a pot of gold. Haha! So, unsurprisingly that became the focus of today's art journal. When I think of a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, I also think of dreams. Not sleeping dreams but real dreams. And unlike sleeping dreams, real dreams don't just come to you. You have to follow or build them yourself. My mom Sylvia was working on a few art projects of her own today and was using these interesting pastels. Since I wanted a sort of dreamy effect to my page I thought I'd try them out too. I felt like I was working with eye shadow to be honest! But they turned out really nice. Today's page kind of has a childlike quality to it. Which is rather appropriate because as children we often have a lot of dreams and things that we want to accomplish and as we get older we get wrapped up in responsibilities and forget all about them. If you've forgotten your childhood dreams see if you can find them again. They may not be very obvious but they are still there somewhere!
Hey everyone! The art journal page is back this week! There are some that think being an artist means that creativity is constantly coming out your ears. But that's not always true. Like anything else you have to work at it and sometimes nothing comes to you no matter how hard you try. I often feel like either I have absolutely no ideas whatsoever or a million more than I know what to do with. It usually happens that I have creative juices flowing while I'm supposed to be doing something else and when I sit down to be artsy nothing comes to me. Haha! So I often just have to start doing something in order for things to come to me. Browsing the stamps today I came across some very interesting tribal motif-ish looking ones and decided to run with them. I liked how the stamps turned out by themselves, but had some doodling in mind as well. So I started to outline the stamps and draw in the spaces between them. Then finished the placement of all the symbols. Or....whatever they are. Other than the lizard, I particularly liked the one with the eagle motif. Then I continued doodling in between and around all the stamped images. As always, I wasn't really sure what I was wanting to do or really how I wanted this page to end up. But that's good! Because the whole premise of this art journal is to actually be spontaneous and exercise my creative muscles. Now as I was doing this I had a certain movie in mind: Mrs. Doubtfire. Which seems like it has no relation to this. But if you've seen that movie than you know there was reference to another movie within that movie. xD Confused yet?
If you know what I'm talking about it should be easy enough to realize what the secret theme of this page is. If not, you should still be able to read it if you look hard enough! |
