Hey everyone! The art journal page is back this week! There are some that think being an artist means that creativity is constantly coming out your ears. But that's not always true. Like anything else you have to work at it and sometimes nothing comes to you no matter how hard you try. I often feel like either I have absolutely no ideas whatsoever or a million more than I know what to do with. It usually happens that I have creative juices flowing while I'm supposed to be doing something else and when I sit down to be artsy nothing comes to me. Haha! So I often just have to start doing something in order for things to come to me. Browsing the stamps today I came across some very interesting tribal motif-ish looking ones and decided to run with them. I liked how the stamps turned out by themselves, but had some doodling in mind as well. So I started to outline the stamps and draw in the spaces between them. Then finished the placement of all the symbols. Or....whatever they are. Other than the lizard, I particularly liked the one with the eagle motif. Then I continued doodling in between and around all the stamped images. As always, I wasn't really sure what I was wanting to do or really how I wanted this page to end up. But that's good! Because the whole premise of this art journal is to actually be spontaneous and exercise my creative muscles. Now as I was doing this I had a certain movie in mind: Mrs. Doubtfire. Which seems like it has no relation to this. But if you've seen that movie than you know there was reference to another movie within that movie. xD Confused yet?
If you know what I'm talking about it should be easy enough to realize what the secret theme of this page is. If not, you should still be able to read it if you look hard enough!

Once again, I am whittling away at the long list of Ravelry patterns I have queued to do. Starting with the smaller easier ones! This time I've finished an Instagram phone case. I like the idea of Instagram but I don't have one of those fancy phones that allows you to have a bunch of apps. And I like it that way! Anyways, this pattern was super easy! I had to modify it a little bit to fit my own model of phone. Sounds hard but it isn't. You just have to have your phone handy for measuring and the pattern instructs you on how to improvise. This is a really cute and useful pattern to do because it makes your phone look snazzy and protects it at the same time. I actually dropped mine wearing this case and the yarn softened the fall! You can find the pattern here: Also, if you'd like to join Ravelry (and I highly recommend that you do!) to create your own pattern queue you can do so here: Happy Crocheting!
Last year I planned to do this huge yarnbomb project but never quite finished it. This year I plan to change that. But to do that I realized I probably should start a bit smaller. So I've been trying to think of some little things I could do here and there. I was out on a walk a couple days ago and had a sudden idea for Valentine's Day. I thought it would look cute if I were to plant little "heart flowers" in the ground. A nice splash of color in all that snow. Of course this didn't give me a lot time. My brain has a way of coming up with things last minute. But I've managed to create about ten of these flowers and will be planting them tomorrow. Each one has an encouraging note attached to the stem. I've also cleverly put my website url on the back as well. Hee hee!
Anyways, I hope to be able to put up a video of this yarny escapade tomorrow. Eventually I think I will create a tutorial in case anyone else wants to make a flower for a loved one, or better yet, a bouquet! But that probably won't be for awhile. It's journal day! So...I'm not really a drinker. But something about cocktails, and martinis and the like kind of intrigues me. Not drinking them, but the way they're made. It's like alchemy. Or science. Or like potions class in Harry Potter. When I was little I would do this thing where I would take a bunch of stuff from the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, mix it together and pretend I was making some crazy concoction. Maybe I should have been a bartender or chemist. Haha! Because of this, today I decided to work with another set of stamps I've been eyeing on my mom's shelf. This set is one of those mix and match assembly types. I didn't care for the sayings so I didn't use them. But I liked how there were different shaped glasses and different things you could put with them. Once again I made use of my favorite markers! They were especially important with these stamps because I could color just the parts that I wanted in a certain color. For instance, I colored the outline and base of the glasses with black but filled in something different for the drink part. You can't do that with a stamp pad! And that's all! It was a pretty simple "Science Experiment" for today's page. Think of each glass as a little beaker. I like the one with the umbrella the most. Because another thing I used to do when I was little was order a Shirley Temple. Which one is your favorite?
So I know my store has been looking a little sparse. But I've been working extra hard behind the scenes to change that. If you've been following me all this time you've most likely gotten glimpses of what's to come here and there. Guess what? Here is another! Can you guess what it is? I'll give you a hint. It's an animal o f some sort!
Anyways, if you're wondering why it takes me so long to update so many things it's because I basically do it all myself. I'm not complaining! It's quite fun and brings me pride to be able to say I did it all myself. But it takes time. For instance, first I have to envision a design. Then I have to design it! Sometimes that can take awhile because seeing it in your head and actually crocheting it to look like the picture in your head are two different things! Then once I've figured out how to make it, then comes the tutorials, pictures, and eventually putting it up in my store. And all of that has a lot of editing involved! I sometimes wish I could blink and it would be ready right away. But without all the work that goes into something you wouldn't get the satisfaction. Have you ever been working on something so long that you think you'll never finish? And when you do it is the most awesome feeling ever? So basically what I am saying is, thank you to all of you that have been following my blog, watching my videos, and waiting ever so patiently for me to get my feet off the ground. You've been sharing all my anticipations and frustrations and soon will get to share the excitements too! =) |
