I don't remember if I announced this in my blog yet, but I am now an official certified teacher on Curious.com! It's a pretty nifty site where you can find tutorials on how to do just about anything. Best part is, unlike Youtube, you don't have to sift through a million different videos just to find what you are looking for. Curious gets right to the point. So you can imagine that I was pretty honored to be invited to become an instructor. And....drum roll please....my first official lesson: How to Crochet a Cupcake Hat is now up on my profile!! Best of all, I get paid for these tutorials. And me getting paid for tutorials means that I can afford to create even more content, patterns, and products for all of you!
So go check it out and see what you think! I will be putting more up on my profile as time goes by. I will also still be posting other tutorials on my Youtube channel as well. As always, stay tuned! =)

Once again it's been a crazy few weeks! No sooner had I gotten my studio operational then I had decided to throw myself head first into a really involved art project. And a few special crochet projects as well. But more on that later. Apart from being a crocheter I am also a multi-media artist. So if you interested in seeing how I work you should definitely check out what I've been doing on here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q8mqOOXyz8 Anyways...about a week ago my mom mentioned that she had a yarn coupon for Michaels. Dangerous thing to say to a yarnaholic such as myself! So off I went to find me some yarn to pet, I mean work with. Because, you know, you can never have too much yarn. So I ended up buying something I usually wouldn't have thought to work with. I had no idea that Isaac Mizrahi did yarn. But there it was, featured on an end cap in the store. I was drawn in by the beautiful and shiny colors. Obviously! But upon picking it up, realized it was extremely soft as well. So of course I took it home with me. xD Even with the coupon this yarn can get a bit pricey, (especially for large projects) so I only got 3 skeins. And since it is a super bulky yarn there wasn't really much yardage to be had either. But who cares. It was pretty. The great thing about bulky yarn though, is that you can make a small project with it very quickly. I was able to create this fun ensemble in only a few days. So yeah, I would recommend this yarn to anyone. If you're a beginner crocheter this would be some very nice yarn to use because it is super easy to work with. Especially if you're using a super large hook. I used a size K and that worked well for me.
Looking back at all the things I've done this year is pretty amazing. Who knew that one of my greatest fears of getting fired actually happening could be so good for me? I have had so many adventures that I just would not have considered or made time for had I still been stuck in a 9 to 5 prison that I hated. Things aren't all peachy though, obviously. But looking on the bright side really helps. Plus, all the problems I've been having lately are just a reminder that things happen for a reason. My editing software died, so I had to get a new more updated program. Now I can do even more things! Then, like clockwork, my TV died. So I haven't been able to watch any videos or play any games. But it's given me more time and ideas to work with my yarn. Recently I learned that I CAN work with that furry eyelash yarn. Initially it was just too tricky for me. But now I can do it and that just means I've leveled up! Haha! So what did I do when I discovered this fact? I worked on perfecting my Aminal hat pattern of course! It still needs tweaking, but I am that much closer to fantastic furry perfection! I'm excited because there is a line of yarn in Hobby Lobby that I desperately want to play with: Unfortunately the weird yellow lighting in Hobby Lobby does not do these beautiful colors justice. There are seven colors in all. A white, a tan, a cream, a pink, a black, a brown, and blue gray. They are VERY soft and look like wonderful flowing fur. And they are acrylic! Imagine the awesome animal-tastic fun I could have with this! Vests, arm warmers, leg warmers, etc. For now I'll be starting small and perfecting that hat!
Earlier this week I slipped and fell down a ladder. When I came to I had a vision, a picture in my head! A picture of... Actually I'm kidding. Back to the Future anyone? I did slip and fall on a ladder, but it was pretty minor. I CAN tell you that I had a near blackout experience and that it was VERY unpleasant. So what have I been doing this past month that I have not wrote any blog entries? Besides falling down ladders anyway... Well, as you may have noticed I've been slowly updating and changing the site. I've been creating a handful of original designs. I've also been working on my first yarnbombing project and planning out other video ideas. So yeah, been pretty busy. Also this week I have been taking pictures of the new shop items for April: These are the ribbed leg warmers. These are in Antique Teal. You'll notice that they match the style of the ribbed infinity scarf HERE and the ribbed arm warmers HERE. These are the ridged leg warmers in the color Yellow and they will also match the ridged arm warmers. These items will have 16 colors to choose from as well. You can taste the rainbow! Yay!
I will be taking proper store pictures of both types of arm warmers and the slouchy hat later this week. So...more pictures to come! I'm really excited about how they came out. In addition to crochet I've found that I really enjoy playing with my camera! So it is important to note that all these pictures were taken by me, of me (I'm the model) and of the actual items. This might sound like a weird thing to say, but I've noticed that a lot of professionally done things these days are SO professional as to seem almost fake and you have to wonder how any of it would relate to or look on an actual every day real life person. So you can be sure that I AM a real person, this is how the stuff ACTUALLY looks, and I am definitely NOT a stick figure. I am a normal size and shape so if it looks good on me it'll look good on you too! =) I've been cooking up some new crochet recipes lately. I've never been very good at cooking but it seems like culinarizing yarn is a lot more fun. Definitely not easy, but very rewarding!
Anyway, this summer I hope to be able to attend some craft shows. When I do, you can bet there will lots of "goodies" at my table. Not just food related of course. =) More details later. Stay tuned! |
