Wow it's been a long while since I last blogged... Going to be honest here, things have not been so great. As someone who has been working in retail for a number of years, this time of year gets very depressing for me. When you are bombarded by just how commercial the holidays are every day it really takes the magic and joy out of it. Not only that but the politics this year have many people, including myself, in various states of anxiety and fear. Needless to say I've been having crippling panic attacks. The same ones in fact, that I had in 2013 when I started this site. But I haven't given up! One of the things I've been trying to do this year to counter my very strong desire to just hide in the house, is to go to concerts. I got tickets to see Lindsey Stirling again with my friend Jackie and then she got us tickets to go see the Legend of Zelda Symphony Orchestra! Those of you that have been following me this year will know that it was our milestone year of turning 30. Omg we're so old! Just kidding, haha. But more than that we've been friends for over 20 years. We've had our ups and downs of course but other than my mom I've never been with a person that long. Or rather people don't stick with me that long. One of the things that we bonded over and that we still play togther even now is our mutual love of The Legend of Zelda. She introduced it to me and ever since then I've been hooked. It brought out my sense of exploration and justice and having the courage to do things I am often too afraid to do. Oftentimes when we get together to tackle things that our anxiety turns into a big production, I like to imagine we're on an adventure in Hyrule. Then things don't seem so scary or impossible. I'm sure this can be said for Jackie too. I learned that she'd been wanting to go to this concert for 5 years! She was so excited! The music was epic but I was also overwhelmed by the amount of other people that loved Legend of Zelda too. It was kind of unreal. Because of my current burnout and anxiety Jackie took the lead with footage for this particular adventure and made an adorable vlog that perfectly captured the memory of our night out. Enjoy!

A few weeks ago I was asked to build a fashion house in Minecraft. I'm not sure if that is the actual technical term but basically it would be a place where people could get together to have skin (Minecraft avatar) competitions. In essence, fashion shows. I've never been to a fashion show myself and have only seen a few snippets on TV but this sounded like fun. I immediately googled "fashion shows" to get some inspiration. Well....the inside of the building was no problem but there aren't many pictures of the exteriors of these places. It was up to me and my own imagination. To me fashion is the epitome of posh. So I decided to use the most expensive and classy materials possible: quartz, gold, glass... I wasn't really thinking how difficult it could be while designing it but then I had to gather all these things. Oh boy. I spent hours upon hours in my least favorite place: the nether. If you don't play Minecraft then I can tell you it is as awful as it sounds. No water, hellish rock, zombie pig people, various fire breathing monsters, skeletons that specialize in withering your life away and of course endless oceans of lava. For some reason.....quartz can be mined in such a place and I needed loads of it. It was all worth it though. Once I finished my work I was rather impressed with myself. My server's community now had a beautiful building to lounge and socialize in and I had the satisfaction of saying I built that thing! Here's a picture of the exterior. If you were participating in the show here would be your view while on the runway. If you were a judge you would have a clear view of not only the runway, but the VIP seating, the dressing rooms, and the intricate glass ceiling. I think the ceiling is my favorite part. If you're not a contestant, a judge or a VIP you would ascend these stairs to get to the general seating. And here it is! The whole second floor is for general viewing. The view from up here is pretty good too! One of the best seats in the house! And here is the exit in case you were wondering. Haha! Hope you enjoyed the tour!
So I don't know about you but during the week there is so much to do that by the time you get home you end up just lying around to catch your breath. Things like cleaning and straightening take a back burner and pretty soon your house starts to look like the Tasmanian Devil blew through it. But! If you leave it too long things get....ugly. So every Friday I have a quick clean sweep. Not totally thorough but enough so that I'm not lost in mounds of mess. I thought it would be funny and a bit interesting to record this process and speed it up. So I guess if you like speed videos this one is for you! I sure wish I could actually clean that fast. I never want to clean but once I'm doing it, it's kind of therapeutic. So you would think that I wouldn't be so resistant to it. Though just watching this video I can clearly see the effort put into straightening. It makes me realize you should never underestimate the effort everyone puts in every day big or small. Life is hard and every little thing that you do to move forward counts. Don't let anyone tell you that your effort is too little or insignificant. My Grandma had this saying that I never really understood. She would say, "Whatever floats your boat!" and now that I'm older I get it. Whatever keeps you going in life you should keep doing it. Other people have other methods and you have yours. As long as it works for you and it isn't hurting anyone it doesn't matter what you are doing. At the end of the day if you made an effort that's all that matters.
Hey all! I am slowly chipping away at the crochet tutorials and have finally released part 2 of the Flowering Cactoid tutorial. Yay! I've also been battling a lot of anxiety. This includes rapid weight gain, lots of hair loss and crippling breathing issues. Anxiety is not just all in your head. I often have to remind myself to breathe. I'm doing a lot better though. I've actually taken to bringing a stuffed animal in the car with me when I drive. Haha!
Anyways, I just want to say that if you suffer with anxiety as well don't let others make you feel like it's not a real thing and that all you have to do is think positive and it will magically go away. It won't. Though thinking positive does help it also takes a lot of practice and effort to continue to do so. Sort of like training for a marathon. But if you've been worried that I am not updating this site anymore or blogging, don't! I have not given up. Sometimes we have to slow down and take little breaks. As long as you don't stop you'll always be on the right track! See you soon with more videos! <3 Emi Hello all! Hope you are enjoying the recent crochet tutorial. Second part will be up soon. If crochet isn't your thing the Day Trippin' shenanigans have started. I've visited a few nature preserves and even IKEA! You don't have to go on an expensive trip to have fun. It's the little things really. In fact I've seen so many wild animals this year already. Bunnies, deer, many many birds, muskrats, a turtle, baby skunks and a beautiful blue heron. Sadly I have none of them on film as I've just been enjoying them in the moment. But I encourage you to go outside to see what you can see. You should even go people watching. Our fellow human beings can be interesting to observe as well. Also pick a shop or building you've never been in before and just check it out. I decided to check out this huge laundromat in my neighborhood simply because I was curious and it was like walking into a palace for clothes. It was pretty cool. I might even make a video about it at some point. Haha! Anyhoo, don't forget to checkout these day trips. I hope to inspire you to go exploring! |
